One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.” – Anthony Robbins
There is a reason that Tony Robbins is a familiar name in the life coaching arena. He teaches people about their personal power. I’ve never read, seen or heard anything by Tony Robbins, but when I looked up “personal power” quotes for this article, he was all over it. I had obviously heard the name before, but never really thought about his work.
I’ve come to find that his words relate to what I’ve been feeling and experiencing in the past year. I have changed my life through the power of thought followed by the power of action. To obtain anything in this material world, you must be like Madonna and become a material girl. By that, I mean you must follow up your well-thought-out wants and desires with the dedication of physical action.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.” – Tony Robbins
I wanted to move Hawaii. I mean, I REALLY wanted to move to Hawaii. This place feels like my long lost home. My (perceived) obstacle was my lack of money. So, my partner Mark and I decided to do a manifestation “ritual” where we essentially released energy out to the Universe indicating our deepest wants and desires. The caveat? We asked that the blinders be lifted from our eyes so we wouldn’t miss a single opportunity that was placed before us.
We ended up on the north side of the Big Island a couple of months later through an organic farming organization. We had to pay for our plane tickets, and a tent, but our food and tent space were covered as long as we put in time working on the farm. Unfortunately, the particular farm we ended up on wasn’t ready to actually host farm workers, and they did not properly feed us. Mark and I looked for other farms/work on the island. We didn’t want to go back to the mainland because we know this is our intended home.
We are currently living in a brand new one-bedroom, ocean-view cottage on a sprawling estate as the caretakers for the property. It’s incredibly hard work. Much more difficult than the farm, but we have a beautiful place to live, a small car to drive and we get a little cash every week to cover basic expenses like food.
You would think I could stay here forever, right? Not quite yet. My next step is to live in my own cottage, closer to the sea decorated and furnished to my liking with my own garden and pets to tend. While the place we live is nothing short of gorgeous, it doesn’t feel like home. The estate owner wanted to decorate and furnish it to her taste, and we aren’t allowed pets. Mark and I are both pet lovers, and we still become melancholy when talking about our dogs on the mainland.
I know it sounds hokey to a lot of people, but like Jimmy always says in the movie Blades of Glory, “If you can dream it, you can do it!” I tease friends and family with that all of the time, but deep down, I truly mean it. If you can dream of a success, you CAN attain it. It’s all a matter of just how dedicated you are to the goal because it requires a great deal including getting rid of things or relationships that will not serve their purpose in your new life.
I write these things not only to help others see what is possible to achieve, I also write them to remind myself that I still have more to bring into my life. I just have to remind myself of the goal and reaffirm my commitment.
Personal power is the ability to take action.” – Tony Robbins
